Refurb Sherwood Newcastle R-972 7.1ch Receiver $299, FS @ 1saleaday

In for another one... I bought one a few years ago (used for $500) and the 3D remap with Trinnov is amazing! Don't buy this for video processing, although I use it with HDMI for both audio and video, video is pass through only.

It is one of the BEST surround sound processors for audio! I had a $1500 Onkyo 9.2 preamp, high end Denon and Marantz, Trinnov beats them all (Audyssey ...), by a long shot! You'd have to move up to Anthem or ADA's $10,000 Trinnov processor to do better... not in my budget! WARNING, it is not the most user friendly but the audio quality is worth the hassle!

BTW, these were going refurb on eBay for around $350 plus shipping a few weeks ago.

Bought one just from this. It's even better than the XT32 on the Denon 4311? XT32 made a huge difference over XT and lesser Audyssey versions. I paid +$1,200 for that receiver, and I thought that was a good buy. I'd sell my 4311 in a heartbeat if that's the case.

I believe Sherwood's parent company builds Denon and a few other brands.

Some video issues with this model. YMMV if firmware updates help. For audio performance, and hooking your HD DVR and Blu ray directly to your display, it's a killer deal. But that pretty much negates the reason for HDMI and the HQV Reon processor.

Their policy is no return even when they screw up. It took 4 months to get refund from credit card for wrong item shipped; no refund for my shipping expense. LOUSY MERCHANT!

It can't be repeated enough. i1ScamAday is pure suckage. You are dumber than a bag of hammers if you order a $250 refurb receiver from them.

Perfect timing.
Now I just need to sell my they-dont-make-them-like-this-anymore 63 lb THX-Ultra2 Pioneer Elite VSX-47TX (don't let the number 47 fool you, compared to some models in the current lineup with higher model numbers. The 47TX was the second or third highest model at the time ($3,000 MSRP orig) but I got it used at a nice discount, albeit still not cheap (more than double this deal) with one known knob defect that is resolved by simply using the original Pioneer remote to switch inputs.
The only reason for upgrading from my Elite (which I love) to this Sherwood Newcastle is to get ALL the latest DD and dts decoding.
I mainly just needed DD Plus decoding for my streaming movies service.

Surprised one R-972 went for only for $337.00 on eBay, albeit just recently. A4L had them for $599.99 and they sold well, with forum members at avsforums and audioholics buying a bunch, some members bought two.
As a member said "Each unit sold to A4L represents a major $ loss for Sherwood, the retail selling price @ A4L was below the Sherwood factory FOB cost... "
I believe this at $299.99 handily beats the $319 + tax clearance Elite VSX-51TX I passed on at BB last night (and was considering picking up tonight till I read this post while doing some more research tonight).
