I don't have experience with apt14.com, but I have had nothing but problems with the Vera Lite device. I would not buy it again, but if you want to chance it, I recommend you buy it from a place with a good return policy, just in case.

care you share the exact issues? dont get me wrong, the vera is definately a tinkerer's device. i was an early adopter and trust me i know the pains of getting this setup and doing what you want. just wondering what type of problems you are having with the lite. fwiw i own a vera2 and while it has issues/limitations i like it.

Am interested too in knowing the problems starfishy had. I have a VeraLite and it works just nice. Documentation is a bit weak and it took me a while to get my Foscam IP camera recognized but this is not a $10,000 Lutron HO installation. It is meant for DIY..

where is the free insteon controller

oh i see, there isnt one.

for anyone wondering, this will support insteon but only if you have the addon control device, that does not ship with this deal.

title is a bit misleading.

I'm new to the Z-Wave (and HA Scene), can you care to elaborate on what addon is needed? I will also change the title to reflect that.

sure, you need the Insteon SmartLinc or Insteon PowerLinc depending on what types of devices you are intending to control. btw sometimes you can snag them cheap on ebay. i paid ~$30 for mine.

Thumbs up.

Cheapest I've seen this so far from a seller I trust. Still not ready to take the jump on a controller. I have a bunch of z-wave light switches installed and manage my remotes manually currently. Also can't control outside my home. Eventually I'd like to have one of these, but not worth it even at $150 until I get a few more devices installed. Totally worth it to get remote control if I had zwave my thermostat and locks, but they're still stone age devices.

She is a good z-wave controller, but for Insteon you'll need the Altsteon plug-in (free) and and insteon bridge as stated before. It'll also support X10 that way.

I use her bigger sister, the Vera 3 (basically a veralite with a bit more memory and a WiFi N router built-in) to run my HA system. I love being able to control lights remotely. Especially when I forget to switch one off when going to work. I also get email notifications if a door is opened or the temperature gets below or above certain values.

If you have a bunch of Zwave switches and dimmers, this is definately a godo buy. Especially as it's one of the few controllers tjhat suports teh encrypted z-wave used by locks. Z-Wave is actually used in eg ADT's and I believe Verizon's HA packages. As well as being part of Lowe's new Iris offering.
