Lepai LP-2020A+ Class-T Audio Mini Amp $19.49 + FSSS

I like the idea of these mini amp's, but don't like the reports of poor quality, fake power ratings, lack of digital inputs... so for a budget a used non-HDMI receiver is a good deal, if you have the space.

It's been that price range on Amazon for a little while. I bought one in mid December from Amazon themselves for $20.

These are great little amps. I have this amp in my garage feeding two 8" exterior speakers. The tripath circuit is very impressive sonically, with richer frequency response than a usual op amp design. I have a Dayton 40 w version that feeds monitors in my studio. Highly recommend this lil amp, but get a better power supply 4-5v for significantly improved performance.

Hmm, could this be what i am looking for? I picked up that Onkyo receiver a couple of weeks ago for my basement for $150 and had intended to set up two zones. Turns out the B or secondary zone needs a separate amp. I was really just going to use it to share the signal when people were in that area so I was going to just put a speaker switch for the front speakers, but I think there is a possibility of lower the sound quality of the front surround then. This might work better and just use the A/B on the receiver as intended.

Does this sound right? Any recommendation for speakers? These [amazon.com] popped up on the Amazon item page for the amp.

I'm an audio noob, but I just got one of these and installed it today. Nice little 2.1 system for my smaller apartment at around $150

can this be hooked up to marshall guitar amp lol?

I Have one of these hooked up to my computer with a couple old optimus metal speakers. Beats the heck out of any of the computer speakers I tried.

big_wake, I'd suggest something more like these if you decide you need a separate amp. But you may want to ask a question with more detail (receiver model, speaker ohm ratings) on an audio forum.

The Lepai is OK for a desktop / nearfield setup, or modest volumes in a small room. Lots of happy users.

BTW, the 12V, 2A power supply this ships with can never produce even 12W per channel (12 V x 2 A = 24W total at 100% efficiency).

10 clean watts or so is fine for a desktop setup, not meant to be a knock.

The spec sheet for the TA2020 chip is widely available. You'd need a 13.5V to 16V power supply and 4 ohm speakers to get close to 20W per channel.

Thanks for the info, guess I will pass on this. I was trying not to spend too much since it would be for occasional use and not sure I even really need speakers there. Actually, I don't need speakers there, just think I probably do want them. I will probably try the speaker selector route since I can do that for not much money.

I can't vouch for the security/reliability of Alibaba (Chinese eBay), but it's consistently ~$15 there.

~$20 has been the price on Amazon for these for awhile.

As for my opinion on the product itself, I think it's a phenomenal way to spend $20 if it fits your use case. One of these, combined with some good budget speakers (e.g. if the Pioneer BS-21s or BS-41s come back in stock at Newegg for $50/$80) will easily outclass active speakers at the price point. I use the Lepai with some Pioneer FS-51s as computer speakers, and I couldn't be happier.

You'll want to keep in mind that the amp probably won't be powerful enough for more than a small room (or maybe medium if you don't need to blast them and your speakers aren't particularly low sensitivity).

Most here will be aware that Monoprice is a great place to get cheap, high-quality speaker wire.

Anybody have any thoughts on using one of these to power ceiling speakers in a bedroom?
