This is a very good price for a great ultrabook. The wife has one and loves it. Super light, thin and stylish, great build quality, good battery life, very fast and responsive, great 900p display, great backlit keyboard with no flex and good feedback. The only things I don't like about this laptop is the trackpad (right-clicking is a pain and too smooth for my taste) and Win 8 (but I managed to revert the GUI to something similar to Win 7 anyway). Also this thing is so small they couldn't fit a kensington lock slot in case that's important for anyone. The complaints about the Sandy Bridge and HD300 are by far irrelevant for almost all user except those who game, in which case even HD4000 is going to suck. The only real competitor to this machine is the zenbook, but I have personally had major quality issues with Asus on 2 laptops including a very high end machine and decided long ago to stop buying their products. Also if the style is important to you, Samsung is more stylish, thinner, and has a much narrower bezel around the display. If you found an 1080p UX31a with Ivy Bridge at the same or similar price, go for it by all means, but if it's refurb, or price is higher by ~200 bucks or more, Samsung will offer a better value IMO. I doubt anyone would regret buying either machine anyway.
Sorry, I am editing my original reply,
Before I answer to your question, letting you know that this is my subjective opinion.
Lower resolution IS one of reason, but that was not reason why I bashed Z930 screen since that resolution is majority of the market.
What I didn't really like about that Z930 screen was, flimsy lid, and viewing angle and brightness. It's not dark but compared to series 9, series 9 was winner on all of those department.
It would be the best for you to check it out before you buy if you have best buy store nearby and see it yourself.
Cowboom had this as a grade 6 for around $485 a week ago. The Buy.com deal on the Zenbook was a killer deal - that screen was so much better than the Samsung screen (which isn't bad at all). I've got a Samsung series 5 ultrabook, and it's a solid machine. But the screen on the Zenbook is similar to an iPad Retina display. And as far as gaming, both the HD3000 and HD4000 both suck. For everything else, you won't see a difference.
