Thanks. I got a little confused until I realized that your points are NOTED on your account within a day or two but it looks as if they are not PAID OUT until the next month.

Now I have to decide if it makes sense to have $80 or $40. I don't really buy much from Office Max and I'm not sure how good their normal 'deals' are. But I probably don't need that much paper so I'll just stick with my initial outlay of money.

OLD money? New money?? If you're referring to rewards, they get issued each month and have an unique code and expiration date. You choose which one you use, just like they were a gift card (though of course they're not). So if you rolled $30 in rewards on another item from a rewards certificate worth $50, the $30 would be issued in a following month in a new certificate, while the remaining $20 would still be on your old certificate till it's used or expires.


Also, if you don't already, you should consider recycling ink cartridges to maximize your rewards. You can buy empty ink cartridges in lots on ebay for ~$.20 each or less and recycle 10/month at Officemax for $2 each. So that's $20 extra rewards per month for $2 outlay.
There's also the issue that you need to spend that much in "qualifying purchases" before ink rewards are... rewarded, but that's easy enough. Simply stated, we need to spend at least $X at OM in order to received ink rewards of $X. So the $80+ for these 2 free-after-rewards paper cases would cover recycling for the first 4 months of the year. Just be aware the "qualifying purchases" mean what you actually pay.... not whatever is discounted by coupons, or paid with by previous rewards, or added by taxes.

UPDATE: Errr, nevermind. Just looked it up myself on OM website and rewards for recycling remain pending in your account until a matching $ qualifying purchase is made, or until the new year (Jan 1)

I went for a case + a ream which equaled over $50 pre-tax which qualifies for free shipping. So, I try to stay around that amount when there is an opportunity to do so. Or If you regularly shop there, or about to buy something valued near $80 or so then spend $80 on this order.
It all comes down to the question. If there never was a good deal on maxperks from today to the day your rewards expire how much are you willing to spend for retail priced merchandise?
For me, I like staying around $50, if there isn't a decent deal before the points expire I'll just pick up a hard drive or something else.

The last order for $0.01 after maxperks order I placed on 9/11/12 and received an email telling me that my maxperks points were in my account on 10/17/12.

It is predicated on returns. They need to ensure that rewards are paid out when there can be no possibility that you can get a reward while still being able to return the item. Usually 2 weeks. This is why most often rewards are paid no earlier than the 15th of the month.........But they have been paid out earlier, this has been the exception rather than the rule.

is the item not showing up online for anybody else?
