I am a tech lover and I don't see the point of a Tablet (atleast to me) if you have a smartphone and a laptop. When I don't want to be on my desktop I will be on my smartphone and vice versa. To me tablets are oversize smartphones/ipod touchs simple as that. Now what I think will revolutionize technology (and its about time they are coming out) are the ultra books that turn into tablets. You can have a laptop and a tablet at the same time instead of buying 2 devices a laptop and tablet you will only need to buy one of those ultrabooks that turn into tablets. Pretty neat device only lack is probably the support it has (which is Windows 8 and not enough apps I believe).
It all depends on your usage and technical expertise.
The average user use computers for mostly media consumption, whether it is movies, books, or music, and tablets are almost entirely focused on the ease of access to these things.
While you can do anything on a PC, you have to go the extra mile to set it all up accordingly. Most people won't even want to do that, and on tablets you just get whatever apps you need and you're done, everything is available at your fingertips.
I am a smartphone + laptop user myself with a full desktop at home, and I can see how tablets can be more convenient. Not that I'll get one anytime soon, just that there is potential which mostly caters to the average consumer and lower.
