It isn't, it is just on sale for $39.99 due to they need to get rid of the ones with Halo on it because it won't be popular anymore.

It's not. You just get pretty imagery for your card. Not a bad deal. As good as the $38 recently for 12 since you get 13 with this.

This is actually a better deal than the recent 37.99 for 12 months.

Not sure what you mean, but if you're talking about a yearly subscription through Microsoft, they charge you $60 a year and you have to give them your credit card info. This one is $40 and doesn't automatically renew.

I was waiting for a while to jump back into a gold account and finally bit when it got down to $38 from Buy.com through eBay last month. If you want gold a prepaid card is definitely the way to go, unless you like auto renewal and don't care about the twenty bucks.

Every time I see a deal for this, it makes me weep that I accidentally left "auto renew" on & Microsoft charged my card $59.99 last month.
