Very OT, but since someone managed to link this to autism and brain cancer...

I'd say waiting too long to have kids is certainly a major factor.

By a maternal age 30-35, the risk for something going 'wrong' is exponentially higher than it is when a girl is 18-22. Has to do with the fact that all eggs are produced at once. The longer they sit around the more likely something goes wrong in them coupled with all the crazy environmental exposure, etc. Same reason that if you live long enough, cancer will eventually be the thing to kill you..

So you are assuming if something goes wrong, the fault is with the egg itself and didn't develop throughout the pregnancy? The world has changed so much that hardly any married woman has kids at 18-22 anymore.

If anyone got near my johnson with something like that, I'd be running faster than Usain Bolt in the other direction.

Of course, what happends during the pregnancy as well plays a huge role. There are specific things that can go wrong in each particular semester/part of development.

I'm saying that intra-uterine development aside, when looking at maternal age (alone) the risk is certainly higher with older maternal age (medical statistics would agree). This isn't the case with older paternal age (as sperm are produced lifelong). That is a trend which is only increasing as women have kids at later ages more often than not these days.
