Does this require a separate power cable or is it bus powered?
It's bus powered.

Seems like a good deal. Although I want to hold out for a near $50 price point. It's something I want, not necessarily need. Too bad BHPhoto coupons are expired Frown.

Thanks for your reponse, I rep you!

Do I reformat the external hard drive from my iMac? This is a surprise to me because both Mac and PC use Intel chips now. They run on same architecture.
Her is the link. It explains everything http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427

does anyone know where i can buy a nice looking external hard drive case? i have a 3.5in hdd hitachi 7200 1tb internal hdd that i want to use as a portal hdd and i cant find a nice looking case for it.
I don't believe you are going to find an external case for a 3.5in drive that will be USB powered, though I could be wrong... I've just never seen one. If you want an enclosure with external power, then they're all over the place on Amazon and elsewhere. I have two of these and they've been great (had them for three years), and don't look like the black monoliths that most enclosures mimic.

unfortunately 3.5" hd's require more power than what usb is capable putting out.
something like 5 volts at 500miliamps (2.5watts)
3.5" hd's require at least 12v at 1amp i think (12 watts)

I sent in a price match to amazon, hopefully we can get enough people to trigger a price drop.

I did also hope they do the match soon

In for two. Good deal. Not going back to the clunky 3.5" ext backups any time soon and when I'm done with the case it gets cracked open to feed a DS411slim.

I picked up one of these Touro drives but it was a 2gb for $69 at Office Depot a couple f weeks ago. No problems with it so far. I use it to stream DVD files via USB to my Blu-Ray player

People should not be confuse with 2TB (whatever brand name) with 1TB (whatever brand name) and keep comparing their prices. They both have different purposes especially this one is 2.5" in size. Any 3.5" drives WILL need a power adapter if use in any external cases.

I bought this from frys after xmas for $64 .

The USB 3.0 is not the fastest but the drive is great.. so I recommend this for the price..
