Computer Architecture Textbook, Hennessey/Patterson 4th ed., $0.99 digital list price for Kindle e-book

Not a limited-time deal, the digital list price is $0.99 which is 99% off the print list price.

This is a required textbook for a grad-level computer architecture course at Georgia Tech. I understand used print copies are inexpensive, but I prefer e-books to 8+ lb. books in my backpack. Cheers.

Man... Major changes since 2006 - the proliferation of multi-cores... the direction is to have many many cores.. we are talking about 128, 256, etc. I am buying so many deals that I am going broke saving money!

This is still the go-to book for most grad architecture classes. I had to use it 2 years ago. The main concepts have not changed, However, this book is more of a reference than a learning book imo. The book approaches the topic with a ton of background and concepts and not so much application (nolt that there is a good way to teach application). The focus is to get the reader to understand the trade offs when designing architecture and why computers are built the way they are.

The authors just released the 5th edition not too long ago which includes more emphasis on multi-core, parallellism, GPU, and cloud computing. Still, this is a good deal if you are an e-reader fan. Personally, I'd prefer the physical book since you can't just "flip" through an e-reader whenever you like.

By 2006, multi cpus were already plentiful. I had already been using machines with up to10's of 1000's of cores for a 15 years by then. My desktop had 8 cpus.

This a lot more up-to-date than my first edition!

Noticed a lot of other super cheap e-textbooks on the order confirmation page:

Computer Networks by Peterson $0.99
