FYI, this is the SanDisk SDSSDP-256G-G25.
Here is the model on Newegg with specs, pics, and not-so-good ratings (seems like a few shipped without any innards?): SanDisk SDSSDP-256G-G25 [newegg.com] |

Does anyone know on this drive what type of nand memory is used? Is it MLC or TLC? Last edited by nerofive5; 01-07-2013 at 12:25 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I think all of you are crazy and splitting hairs. If you look at the reviews: http://www.anandtech.com/show/655...ew-256gb/9 yes this drive performs in the lower half in comparison with other SSD's but it's still a SSD.
It's like comparing motorcycles to cars. Yes, this drive is a slower motorcycle, but it will still run circles around a regular car (HDD's). Given Sandisk's track record of reliability I'm giving this one some serious thought. In terms of real world performance I'll proably get a 15.5 second boot up time instead of a 15.0 second boot up time if I got a Samsung SSD. I'm not going to cry over that lost half second. Nevertheless, I still think this SSD merits consideration because it's still faster than a HDD by a long shot and you all are still splitting hairs. You guys make it sound like a status thing, "Gotta have the fastest SSD out there! If it's not the fastest, it sucks!"
After reading some review it appears the IOPS (whatever that is) is laughably slow on this SSD (2,000 as opposed to 25,000 for Extreme) and this price is pretty close to regular every day price. I got the impression though, that it performs slower because Sandisk was trying to lower the energy consumption and perhaps heat generation? Maybe they were targeting the laptop market? Does change my stance on a purchase a little, knowing I can pretty much get it at this price any time. I was gonna get the Crucial 128GB SSD here which has very fast IOPS (35k): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...=240501577 but there's such a huge difference between 128GB and 256GB and so many people on that thread complaining about performance issues until they downloaded the latest firmware update and even then, ppl complain about their drives just dying. I'd rather have a slower drive that is more reliable than a screamer that has problems. Last edited by stevenq; 01-07-2013 at 01:42 PM.. |

ReRAM does not require constant power to hold data, which is why it is being heralded as the successor to hard disk drives, solid state drives and random access memory. Traditional SRAM and DRAM are volatile, while flash memory is non-volatile. However, flash memory by it's nature/construction is slower than DRAM, which is slower than SRAM due to implementation in architecture. ReRAM will be faster than DRAM, but be non-volatile like flash (NAND), and have a smaller footprint/fabrication. |

I can't tell if you're trolling or... Just read this summary [wikipedia.org]. Take a Master's course in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering if you want to learn more. Both branches offer concentrations that allow you to take courses in different types of memory devices. |
