here is the process

You need to do the CreditCards Card Match here: https://www.creditcards.com/cardmatch/

I put in all my information without my SSN. I had to do it in an incognito browser tab. Amex Platinum 100k Link showed up for me... Clicked "Apply Here" and it worked! I was approved for 100k MR after $3,000 Spending in 3 Mo's. I received a confirmation e-mail shortly thereafter with my approval information.

Also placed a phone call to American Express to confirm the sign up offer.

I find it odd so many of you are calling to tell them you don't qualify. Why not use it and see what happens. a couple years ago I applied for 2 AA cards at the sametime. They were identical and I got 75k for both. I never called or brought any attention to my account and it worked.
After calling numerous times you can guarantee you won;t get this now

So true! Amex may never even notice these deals but for our SDers who call hundreds of time and write secure messages just to alert amex that something is going on! If not this time, may be next time amex will change the wordings and say that "Welcome bonus is applicable only for first time cardholders" or something like that which chase usually does. Amex missed that wording this time and so it has to honor the applicants. Just stay low peeps and try to go under the radar without getting noticed!

So you can fly on those airlines without of out of pocket expenses. I can't speak for the current offering of airlines, but when they had United as a partner it was lovely. 100k on United would have been 4 domestic or one or two international flights (depending on where you go, when you go and if you decide to go first class or not). You can get $1000 in gift cards thru MR or over $1000 in travel, easy.

I would like to learn the simplest way to bring up spending (my wife and I each got the Amex Platinum card) without using Amazon Payments.

Specifically I would like somebody to walk me through a simple explanation, availability (CVS/OD/???), restriction (Amount per visit/Frequency) and downsides/pitfalls for both Bluebird and Vanilla Reload/Beans.

For doing so, I will send you paypal $5 (SD rules limit me to $5)

If you post it on this thread for everybody, I will still pay you.

Thank you in advance.
Well amazon payments is simpler than bluebird.
You need bluebird and vanilla reloads. Two separate things that work together.

You buy vanilla reload cards for $500 ($4 fee) at CVS and other stores that sell with credit card. List is available at www.vanillareload.com but doesn't specify who takes credit cards and who doesn't (varies by store sometimes too)

At my CVS you can buy 2x500 per transaction. I was allowed another transaction of 500, that's the most I've tried. You can buy an infinite number of vanilla reload cards, over time. Common sense says to not buy that many in one trip for various reasons.

For bluebird, you need to sign up for it. Takes a week+ to get card, so that's really step 1 for what you should do. If you have a SERVE card, you may need to cancel it.

Once you have your bluebird card, you can go to vanillareloads website and load up to $1000 each day. It shows up for me right away in my bluebird account. You can do 5k a month, so 10 vanilla cards a month. You can keep up to 10K in bluebird. It's not earning you any interest.

There are a variety of ways to get money back from bluebird. You can pay bills...pretty much anything. You can withdraw money with some limits. You can send $5k to anybody a month, 10k total. I think the site is fairly easy to navigate and understand.

It's still very early in the game, so it's not clear what will get you in trouble and what won't, but use common sense. I think mixing up withdraw methods is safest approach, and it can't hurt to keep some cash in your account, so they are making some interest on that.

I'd also recommend putting spending other than 3x1000 on these cards... no need to make things more obvious than they need to be.

I mean in terms of just booking through Amex rather than an airline?

If you were considering using PayPal to meet your spend read this thread on flyer talk http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/am...nship.html
Somebody posted another link there too, scary stories. But I remember how they treated me when I called them after they reduced the credit limit of one of my cards from $12,000 to $500 during the economic crisis a few years ago. Not surprising at all. Obviously AmEx and PayPal don't go well together.

Its normally much better to transfer points to miles with a program. If you buy through amextravel you are getting 100,000 points to $1000 in travel. Also amextravel likely doesn't get as good of deals as expedia so $1000 doesn't go that far.
With miles you can get a lot more then a $1000 worth if you play it right. For example right now you can transfer your 100k points to 130k British airways miles. You could turn 130k BA miles into 4 hawaii RT tickets(possibly more depending on airport). If I used amextravel to book 4 RT tickets to hawaii would cost $2312.00. Just one of many examples how transfering miles will go much farther then buying flights through amex

Also forgot to mention that re loadable cards are considered ineligible charges and wont result in meeting the spend requirement or in getting points
I thought that pertained to points. Where does it say what's ineligible for the spending requirement?

ya let';s hope they'll run the 30% promo again since the actual promo expires on the 14th

I already charged and paid $3k just to get the points fast in case they'll run such a promo again

a shitty thing about the points conversion is the blackout dates..is hard to find RT dates for hawaii

it was an interesting read, but by the final page of the thread the OP figured out that Amex did not cancel his account because of the paypal transfer but because of unusual spending patterns on his wife's bill, and the OP even got his account reinstated

Did you buy the $200 using ecert (instant) or request the physical cards?

Did you request the $200 at once or do several smaller transactions?

Thanks

Did you buy the plastic or the virtual cards? I'm wondering if the virtual would work.
