Roku 2 XS Wireless 1080p HD Media Player (Refurbished) $55

1SAD is very very consistent about selling Rokus. You can pretty much always count on 1-2 sales on these per month. I'm starting to thing that they're just an outlet for refurbished Rokus. Way more on here than on Woot!.

I've had similar issues but according to some plex forums the problem lies with the media server. Typically I just right click the icon in windows and update library. The forums say it has something to do with the file naming. Usually renaming to something simple will fix the problem (though I've not had the naming issue so far)

So what am I missing?
Why are there so many Roku refurbished units for sale?
What are those who are dumping these things getting to replace it?
….Or are they not content with using a streamer and opting out?

A lot of people don't realize that things like Netflix and Hulu require a subscription fee and buy a Roku simply thinking it will just magically stream TV to them for free. And to be fair, while there is a wealth of content available for the Roku for free, the simple act of finding channels online and adding them to their account is too "high tech" for a lot of people.

if pirates/viewers are dumb enough to still be downloading/encoding avis over mp4s they dont deserve a HTPC or a media box like this Roku.....

Well, if you want to get technical, it went for $55 before and it's again going for $55, so it is still the "best price" seen, just not the first time the best price has been seen. He didn't say that this was the first time he's seen it this cheap.

Yeah, the deals on the various Rokus come back. They seem to be often shortlived, but come back over and over. If you miss it on one, you'll probably get another shot...

I recently tried out a WD tv live that did play avi files but the interface was insanely slow and buggy. It wouldn't let me properly 'eject' the usb drive so I would always have errors if I unplugged it. Also it seems to be the only avi player outside of an android device that resembles a roku, I may just have to bite the bullet and re-encode... hundreds and hundreds of gigs

I wish microsoft didn't own the patent and charge royalties on everyone making these handy little devices. Patents cripple the growth of technology.

How are these Roku's with reguards to responsiveness? Is there any reason it would be slow if the media was mostly just playing from USB? Does it have the same issues that the WDtv I mentioned had?

I've tried a roku on the past and gave up because it was too slow and unstable, but it undoubtedly has the most support as far as channels go. My question is - is there any other streaming player <$100 which is faster and more stable? E.g. With Plex, is there anything else that will not require transcoding?

How about the blu ray players - is there Netflix UI faster? I see that the Samsung BR players also support Plex with a very nice client UI, but is it usable?

Wow! Much cheaper than the $70 Roku2 XS package from Costco that I picked up last week.

Originally, I was going to nab a BR player w/ apps / channels to consolidate hardware, but I heard they're so dog-gone slow that they're painful to use.

These are pretty useful until better technology appears. I picked up both a refurb HD and XS, the latter from 1SAD which shipped rather quickly. The XS is better if only because the motion controlled remote allows you to hide the Roku or attach it to the back of a flat screen. The others require the Roku to be visible to the remote.

I missed the last deal but got it this time. Just in time for someones birthday. Although I bought it then came here to post about it I will still give a +1 to OP.
