If you think your electronics that you buy will never be broken within the warranty period, more power to you. For me, I always buy stuffs at a good bargain, but always buy those with full warranty. Last time I got a 60D was about two years ago and I got it for about $600. Problems with BigValueInc is that they deliberately lie about warranty. A friend of mine bought a 5D3 from them and the package didn't come with a USA warranty card. They tried to tell my friend that it's okay. They ended up offering an extended warranty from another company. Another friend bought another camera from them. He's well aware of how BigValueInc was. Anyway, his package came with a fake warranty card. It just shows how this company operates. Regarding warranty, from Canon USA warranty enclosure (this is from a Canon lens): "The limited warranty set forth below is given by Canon U.S.A., Inc. (Canon U.S.A.) in the United States and Canon Canada Inc., in Canada (herein referred to collectively as "Canon") with respect to the Canon Binoculars and Photographic Lens Products packaged with this Limited Warranty and identified by model number on this limited warranty card (each a "Product") when purchased and used in the United States or Canada." Also, from the website, it says, "All professional products sold via Canon USA authorized resellers are covered by a comprehensive product warranty." http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/pro...t-warranty I think Canon distinguishes their products by including a warranty card. So, basically, you are guaranteed to get a warranty card if you buy from an authorized dealer. (Per my experiences, they never asked to see a warranty card. They only asked to see a receipt from an authorized dealer though.) Regarding how Canon honors warranty, we can discuss further and further, but that's not the point here. The issue here is whether or not it's right for Bigvalueinc to advertise their products as Canon USA when they're gray market. It's been discussed several times here and somewhere else. If you find that, by interpreting the Canon warranty, you can purchase any gray market products and legally claim warranty from Canon USA, more power to you as you should be able to buy cheap stuffs and have the same service as anyone else who buy from an authorized dealer. For me, I don't think I can rest 100% assured for that. Moreover, I still find it's a wrong thing for Bigvalueinc to do. Bottom lines: - Will the "gray market" products from BigValueInc be covered by Canon USA within a year from the date of purchase? I think the answer is maybe or maybe not, depending on the Canon's courtesy policy at the time. - Is it right for BigValueInc to advertise their "gray market" products as Canon USA? Definitely not. |

You can buy the cheapest 50mm for $100 or you can invest in a decent lens. I will recommend 35m or 50mm prime lens to start with and then you can buy more lenses as you grow in photography. Good luck! this is a good price for a body only. I just ordered this as my backup camera....I am not a professional though :-) |

The warranty card is actually worthless FYI. All you use it for is to "register" your camera under your name with Canon, but the warranty is active regardless of whether or not you send it in. When you request warranty service, Canon matches the serial number of your device in their database so they know which retailer that camera was sent to if it is authorized. Then you have to give them proof of purchase from the retailer to verify the sale date as warranty is 1 year. So the card is meaningless, and BVI removed the card from the box as another pre-emptive measure to keep customers from asking questions (which ironically does the exact opposite if people know to expect a card). See, it's clear from the two of you not knowing what the card is for and stuff that there is a lot of confusion out there about how these warranties work and BVI is having a field day taking advantage of that. Shame on SD and shame on eBay for promoting such a shady seller. |

The only way to really stop this scumbag is honestly to take it to Canon. eBay will let their high-volume sellers get away with anything and SD mods are just willfully ignorant in regards to this issue. If enough people take it to Canon, keep asking them about this unauthorized seller named Big Value Inc. that keeps advertising a Canon USA warranty, holding Canon responsible for not defining clearly enough authorized warranty terms (even if that's not true, it would still make BVI an annoyance for them) eventually they will do something about it. They could pressure eBay to shut them down or threaten BVI with legal action because their false advertising is making Canon deal with BVI customers' baggage. Because ultimately, even though they can't be held responsible, their brand image could be affected by unhappy BVI customers. Last edited by biggiep; 01-08-2013 at 05:19 PM.. |
