liteonrules 153 18 January 8, 2013 at 08:51 AM
the acer netbook c7 chromebook is a pretty good deal for $199 but i would like to know if i can INSTALL WINDOW 7 on this. I searched endlessly on the internet to see if it is possible and i have found nothing. i will say that i am not very good at researching but i have found nothing to say it can be done. this is a good deal at $199 but i would want Window 7 on it. i do not like change and i tried unbuntu and hated it.

Seems to suggest no.

Chromebooks are generally fairly low powered machines. Some have intel processors others have ARM processors. For obvious reasons the ARM machines won't run windows. I know several of the Chromebooks will run other versions of Linux.

If your just looking for a cheap machine, for not much more than 199 you can find them. They already come with Windows too. They won't be spectacular but it's a really cheap machine. By the time you add a Windows license to a 199 Chromebook your hot deal is not quite so hot.

You could also make Ubuntu look like Windows 7 [google.com]. Or at least try KDE, I don't care for the default GUI that Ubuntu installs myself.

I wondered the same thing and as LR mentions, the processor won't make the grade for Windows.
Considering that you can find dual core Asus and Acer netbooks for $200 and sometimes even pick up 16 inch Windows laptops for the same price, the Chromebooks seem a bit overpriced, with their piddly little ARM processors.
