This is fantastic. It only uses one eSATA port (8-bay uses 2), which is what I have on my laptop. And this takes 3TB drives. I have four Seagate 3TB drives from Black Friday sitting at home. Now, I can finally put them to use. Thanks a ton!
Also, code worked for me, I received the email yesterday as well.
I'm out of room inside my FreeNAS box (6 drives in it) and need more space so this may be an easy way to add a bunch more drives into it...Assume it supplies its own power and all that so for someone in my situation who just runs JBOD for media this might be a good way to add extra drives...Thinking...
All you people griping about not being RAID should think again.
If you are going to run this in a linux/freenas server your much better off using mdadm (software) raid setup especially with 'desktop' class drives, so JBOD is perfect. Hardware raid isn't any good unless you get a $200+ controller.
I have servers with enterprise RAID cards and trust me some of those are junk compared to a software mdadm raid 5 array. Only downside is you typically can't boot to a mdadm raid 5, but this is easily addressed with a USB flash boot or another drive dedicated for the OS.
Ordered...Thanks and reps OP. We'll see how this goes. If it can even just help me to expand my maxxed out motherboard/case which is on its last available SATA port, and add more storage to my FreeNAS media box, I think it's gonna be $60 well spent assuming rebates both come in without hassle.
