I was hoping to see some discounted lower tier models but it looks like Dell only has 3 models left (2 73", one 82"), as well as some other retailers so I'm guessing Mitsu has been gearing down for a while. I'm not sure I want to wait.... |

Pauls' TV also has the 92742 TV for $2799. While some have complaints about the Home Delivery service, I had a happy experience.
What I care about is the image quality. So my choice would be plasma, then DLP, and then LCD/LED (personally, can't care less about the "thickness" of the TV). Plasma to me still has the best picture quality. LCD/LED has the most "artificial" images. Take a look at the Sharp 80" at Best Buy and the Mits 742 and 842 series. You'll see a difference in picture quality. I have a big open space, and a big bay window. No problem watching the TV, but you do see more "grainy" pictures in the daylight WHEN the resolution is not high. Update: From my personal experience, viewing from both sides of the room is not a problem. However, you do see different images when you adjust the seat height. I simply put my TV on the floor--my sofa is 17" high. However, I found that I have to sit on the floor to view 3D movies--I guess I'll get a custom-made 12" tv stand later. My thought about the discontinuation of the DLP TVs: The better technologies (primarily wrt picture quality) do not always win. Last edited by peterc; 01-10-2013 at 08:14 AM.. |

Dinosaur Like Projectors are finally in extinction mode, R.I.P., and that they will very soon have the same value-retention as CRT type tv's. |

How Can it be misinformation, when consumer reports has in writing that Mitsu has the worst repair record. Just letting everyone know how crappy these DLP's are. There are reasons that they turned into dinosaurs. I couldn't even get rid of my once $2800 unit for $100. Everyone wants super thin TV's and not thick ones anymore. My Samsung ES7100 rocks!!!!!

Regarding everyone wanting 'super thin' TVs; perhaps there are also those of us who have large enough rooms to accommodate these 'fatties' with a touch of space to spare - perhaps more appropriate for a screen of larger portions? I actually have my Mitsu pulled around 2.5 feet away from the wall so that I have a clear walkway behind it to access all of my A/V connections, and we still sit 13ft away... Get over it dude, people buying larger TVs like these generally have a bit more space to offer than those who are trying to cram compromised sizes in tight spaces. Keep in mind - the 73" is only 18" deep... No, you can't wall mount it, but many people I know with LCDs have them sitting on stands anyhow - and guess what(?) - those stands are deeper than 18"... Also, my 73" Mitsubishi actually weighs ~14lbs less than the Sharp Aquos 70" LED LCD... Let's move on, shall we? Last edited by prodigy79; 01-10-2013 at 07:32 AM.. |

I'm confused about the 3D options. I have the 73642, which has "3DTV (VESA Jack and DLP Link)" and does not have an "Internal 3D Glasses IR Emitter". I take this to mean that I have to purchase an external 3D emitter (most like the "Dimensional Optics 3ACTIVE IR Emitter Compatible with Mitsubishi 3D DLP TV"). Is this true?
Also, because of an earlier post I'd like to repeat that I had the 65 inch DLP (65638, I think). Bought it at Circuit City B&M, so that tells you I had it for a while. The picture never dimmed, and I never replaced the lamp. |

However your samsung LCD TV picture will degrade over time and nothing you do can change or fix that fact. I saw this deal before the OP posted it and great post detail so reps for that. I have the first generation 82" DLP and it has been great so far for many years. That being said I wanted a 92" since I first heard of them but price kept me away. Since they stopped making them now I had to order and I got the WD92842 - Bundle with stand(great price for a 83" stand). The 82" bundle is the better buy IMO but the price premium on the 92" is still the lowest it has been on the current model before they run out of stock. My father has a 73" and he bought a WD82842 - Bundle without stand. We can't wait for our TV's this friday! |
