What is it with the spike in whey prices? Both K-cups and whey just blew up in price the last couple years. Is it just more demand?

Muscle is muscle. No such thing as lean muscle or bulky muscle. And the type of protein is essentially irrelevant. To stay lean and build muscle just eat a little [100-250 calories/day] more calories than you burn off and lift heavy weights. That will keep you lean and build muscle as well.

Pretty much. And supplement companies aren't the only buyers of whey. Food companies such as Kraft and Pepsi uses MUCH more (Pepsi's Gatorade bought like 500 million pounds of whey when they launched Ready-To-Drink products).

The best bet (if you need to supplement whey protein) is to use whey concentrate (unless one has lactose issues). The assumption of the more expensive whey isolates being superior needs to go away.
