i just got the 1099 $ zenbook prime from bestbuy and tbh you dont really notice the smudges.. unless youre one of those people that eat and then wipe your hands on your jeans and consider that "clean". i have yet to clean my screen once
Bought the same laptop earlier this week at BB, and I couldn't agree more... the smudges are unnoticeable unless you turn off the screen. Then again, I usually keep my hands pretty clean, so who knows.
Next gen laptop will be no keyboard..only touch screen like tablets/iPad...
A laptop with no keyboard ... is a tablet ..... ie the Microsoft Surface Pro with full Windows 8.
And no, the next gen laptop will not be a no keyboard system. Keyboards will be around still for quite some time, even if it's a fold-out keyboard. There is no substitution for typing on a keyboard versus on the screen itself.
I'm seriously considering this after having bad luck with a Samsung Ultabook from BB. Here are my needs:
I need 1040 resolution. I know many of you tun you nose up at that, but since I was born with a debilitating eye disease, I need it to see. Will this unit work OK under lower resolution. The Samsung was so/so on it. My five year old Dell has a better display.
My work involves travel and event planning so I surf the net a lot for my job. The Samsung was slower than my five year old Dell on the web.
How is Acer as a brand? My Dell has been a workhorse but it's past its prime. And everyone I've ever known who bought a 2nd Dell was sorry.
I do want the touch screen because of the ability to make things large when I need it. My "real work" will benefit from the touch screen but I don't want to sacrifice quality to get it.
Is there a better 14 or 15 inch laptop out there in the midrange price?
It's a touchscreen laptop. That makes the equation different for most people, right? I agree that 600 bucks for this laptop is a bad price if it was a standard screen, but the touchscreen feature makes the laptop worth more. $600 seems like a decent price. There aren't a whole lot of touchscreen laptop deals being posted.
Microsoft should focus on improving their Windows trackpad controls, finger gestures, inertial scrolling, and add something similar to expose or spaces to at least get on par with the macbooks trackpad. Those features alone will add more productivity, and a better user experience then any dumb touchscreen on a laptop screen. I just can't go back to my laptops trackpad control scheme after owning a macbook.
