In for 1. I'm sort of hoping that I can rip the drive out of the enclosure and use it internally in my PC rather than running it over USB 3.0. Anyone know if I should expect any issues doing that?

No problems doing this as its just a standard sata drive inside buy yes, you will void the warranty. I have 6 of these in my home server as well as some of the backup plus 3TB drives and all came out of the enclosures. It takes all of two minutes to take them out of the enclosures. |

I think the enclosures are super cheap and many people have issues, but the drive inside of it is pretty good. |

Thank you, Brace1978 and hpe45, for confirming what I had hoped for. Looks like I'll be doing an upgrade from my old 1.5 TB drive to a nice new 4 TB drive on Friday. I'm psyched!

Hmm, is there a 4TB drive inside (I would guess so, it looks too small for two drives).
I have done the same with the 3TB drives to be used in a raid backup array. Be aware that you're going to have to use special seagate software (free on the Web) to see the full 3TB (or 4TB I suppose). At first in setting up the raid array this was a bit touch and go, but then magically (as in I don't know why it suddenly worked), the array saw the full size of the drive. Just a heads up that it's not completely plug and go. |
