Yup, no one makes 27" 16:10 panels. I just picked up a Yamakasi 30" (16:10), same panel as the u3011 in the Yongsan electronics market for hundreds less than this 27". It's a beauty.

Granted this specific model and cost may be a good deal but..

There is always something to be said about getting a larger screen monitor. (27" or 30")

For $650 you can get TWO 24" screen.
Alternative Options include:
- Two Dell 2412m
- two Asus p248Q (I have three of these in a eyefinity setup)

both are IPS 24" monitors, LED, multiple digital input + vga, 1920x1200 16:10 aspect ratio.

Total desktop and resolution wise you are better off with dual 24" screens.
Combination of two 24" monitor with UltraMon ($30 software) you have a killer productivity setup.

In almost all work/producitty situation I would say dual 24" monitor is way better than a single 27"
Only situtation I can think of where single 27" work better is:
- gaming
- movie/video watching
- editing a large picture file where you need to see everything at once in detail.

None of those situtation applies to me at least not as much time spent doing that as oppose to real work.


btw: It's annoying that every time there's a post on 27" or 30" monitors there's always that one or two IDIOTS that say "I can get a 42" HDTV for that price".

With technology advancing so fast. This is VERY over priced as I can get a bigger monitor for a lot less from a equal vendor. Not slick imo.

I got it during the holidays, and the clarity and brightness/contract is amazing. I had an e-ips for several years before, and there is no comparison. Note that I did get one dead pixel on the right side of the screen, and Dell has a 5 dead pixel policy.

Its a inherent flaw in the way ips panels are manufactured which makes for high defect rates. The bigger the screen the higher the chance of defects which accounts for the large number of 27" rejects sold as korean/monoprice monitors and the high price of the survivors which are sold by dell and others.
