I'm on the same search. I bought the meritline cables about a month ago because they seemed a bit slim, but they're not as slim as the Samsung cables and their connection seems out of spec. I also ordered these[eachgame.com] because they seem slim, but I still haven't received them after 35 days.
So far the best third party micro USB cables for tight spaces I've found are the right angled StarTech ones[amazon.com], but these are a bit expensive and angled isn't always good (their straight versions are fat).
This looks like the best available option on Amazon. The are 5' long and appear to be genuine Samsung (at least the connector looks to be the same slim design). The are $0.85 + $2.95 shipping = $3.80 each. Unfortunately, there are no shipping discounts for larger quantities. This is a little more than I like to spend on cables like this, but if I actually get the product described then it is probably worth the price.
thanks for the tip, i never noticed the color code was the BLUE for USB 3.0, i always looks for the SS symbol.
Most USB3 cables I've seen are a vibrant blue color. Not really my preference, but it does make it a lot easier to fish them out of a drawer with other cables in it. It's definitely not a requirement though, I have a couple of black USB3 cables that came with devices.
The tips though, those always seem to have blue plastic inside the flat rectangular end, and the "micro" and "regular ends" are distinctive and don't really need color coding, but the "regular" one seems to always have the blue plastic inside the tip. I've yet to see an exception.
I am constantly on the search for some 5'-6' cables with a smaller micro end. I have many devices that charge by micro usb, and these fat plugs can be a problem on some devices. I ordered a few Samsung cables (nice skinny plastic around micro end) from Amazon a while back. The seller description was ambiguous, but many reviews stated getting longer cables. Nope, ended up with a bunch of 3 footers. Anyone have a good suggestion?
My favorite place to buy cables for years now has been www.Monoprice.com. You might want to contact them and ask if they can supply the measurements for the cable ends to see if they'd fit your needs. Monoprice has great per-cable pricing, but shipping can be a killer. Generally if I place an order with them, it's for like 50+ cables of all different types, since at that point the shipping doesn't add much to the price. (for example, I've got an order in for 50 1ft ethernet cables and a 16ft active USB extension cable, for a grand total of about $35) The cables have always been good quality (unlike some of the "dollar deals" I've gotten from various places.) so if the size will work, they might be worth a shot.
man I hate the coupons that can only be used so many times...even if it's 500 times, that's just like 5 minutes on slickdeals...
And you just explained why they have coupons with limits.... SlickDeals
