Fyu...
Understand that. But attacking a US embassy is a lil out of the "Normal" even for Turkey... |

Before you make any travel plan to anywhere in the future, log in to that area's newspapers, check who were murdered recently, and cancel beforehand so you can save money. More time and more money means you can build that underground bunker faster. I assure you that you will always find murders and be able to make an excuse out of them, people kill people everywhere, far more so in the US than the rest of the western world. This country leads the world in school, mall, theatre shootings so stay out of them all. Also, don't forget to switch to Geico. Last edited by TheNaturist; 02-03-2013 at 02:58 PM.. I can find you countless articles of murdered tourists for any and every country including the US. If you talk about local crime, US leads civilized countries anyway, and that is also a risk for tourists. Murder rate in US is quite higher than Turkey. |

Anyone getting murdered is a tragedy, but let's look at what little details we have here:
1.) This woman had never been out of the United States before in her life 2.) She was married, with kids 3.) She was traveling totally alone 4.) She met a man, from Istanbul, on the internet four months ago who urged her to come to Istanbul 5.) They had been emailing back and forth before and during her trip there 6.) The morning she disappeared, she emailed this guy to meet him Sorry folks, but that counts as risky behavior. I'm a grown man and you wouldn't see me doing that. No way i would travel alone the first time out of the country. No way would i (especially if i were a woman) meet a guy in person, in a foreign city, that I had met on the internet. Everything about this story is suspicious. It's sad that she died/was killed, but you need to use common sense regardless of what city you are in, worldwide. BF and I are going 12-17th. Are there any SDers meeting up or interested in meeting up? PM me.
Also is anyone leaving on the 12th and interested in sharing a cab or something to the airport? EDIT: Some tips from a Turkish friend Either have a phone or buy a phone card at the airport for emergencies. Have $20 cash for the entry visa. Don't take taxis. Don't be out after public transportation closes (11pm I think). Do not keep anything in your coat pockets. He emphasized that there is a lot of pickpocketing around Taksim. If wearing a backpack either wear it on your front, or make sure someone behind you watches it. Try to keep things in your inner pockets, either in a pocket of an inner layer or an inside pocket of a jacket. Make sure to see a menu with prices before you order your food.
