There are pretty good odds that these are counterfeit.

Memory cards are perhaps the single most counterfeited technology item. The "about us" at Bens Outlet doesn't imbue a lot of confidence that they are a big enough retailer to buy direct from Samsung.

Damn, grasp 4 by accident and Cannot cancel. The first 3 times, website show sth wrong and not confirmed. The Fourth has submitted successfully. When I check the email, I got 4 confirmation letter.

Bens Outlet buys overstock from (sometimes) retailers and (mostly) other flash deal sites. So you're seeing what places like Woot and Fab have left over at the end of a sale period.

They may buy some of their stock that way, who knows where they get the rest. It is so, so easy to buy large quantities of counterfeit memory cards. Even professional hardware guys have a hard time telling counterfeit SD cards from the real deal... until they start to fail.

This is not a terrible price even for generic cards, but at this price, from this vendor, that's what I consider these. Cheap generics counterfeits with unknown provenience and reliability.

Welp, pulled the trigger. I needed one to hold GPS map updates, and this is a darn reasonable price.

When the cards arrive, I guess I'll run speed tests on these guys to see if they're authentic or not.

Speed tests often don't tell the tale. There are many levels of counterfeit. The worst are the ebay deals where a card has less space than is marked. Then there are the factory rejects that are marked as name brand. Lastly, there are generics that are marked as name brand. Some even may have a decent speed - at first - but have a lot of bad blocks already mapped, reducing their life.

You need to really know what you're looking for to determine if a card is genuine. For end consumers, the best and easiest way is to always buy memory cards from large retailers - no exceptions.

Yeah, I wouldn't be throwing these in my cameras or anything, so even if they're terrible, I hope they stand up to one write and keep reading for a while. I've got plans for one of the cards, but I can't figure out what I'll do with the other card, haha.
