Panasonic TCP60GT50 - 60" 600Hz 1080p Plasma 3D HDTV $1700 shipped

Looks like I reposted after a more careful search. Oh well, maybe I can trigger some new alerts.

Getting closer to strike price for the 60".

Spent all year watching it since CES2012 @ ~$2100.

Fully expect price to be around $1500 by end of January & maybe less by end of February.

That may be true, but there are several things also cutting against that...the ST50s are quickly moving out of inventory at most retailers with little discounting, i.e., it's hard to even find the 60" for less than $1600 right now. With dwindling stock of the STs, people will likely be stepping up to the GTs now, diminishing what already seems a limited stock. And with limited stock and continued demand, there isn't really that much reason to discount much more just yet. So, by the time they do come down, it seems they'll be difficult to find. Maybe now's the time to jump at a place with a price guarantee. My 2 cents.

However, it wouldn't be sd.net if we didn't drive profit margins to the ground!

Seriously, I really only see paulstv setting the price $200 below the rest of the market median.
I really think Amazon drives pricing & they're @ $1900 which is $200 below what they were all year on the GT.
& $1700 on the ST 60"-ers. So Amazon will have room to move.

Therefore, just as long as they have inventory - no fear here - I think Amazon will adjust as their stuff stacks up.
Paul will get rid of their stuff @ $200 below market median. But Amazon will just do it later to clear out their stock IMO.

I hope you are right, but I seem to remember much better sale prices last year by now.

I was waiting for a 65" ST50 or 60" GT50 to hit $1500, but I didn't see the ST50 coming down $500-$700 from current except as a limited stock fire sale - the kind the most people miss. And while I figure the GT50 will likely continue to come down to $1500 over the next 1-2 months, I feel it's stock is fairly limited as well in looking around; not very many merchants still carrying it. And I would have bought the 60" ST50 at $1250, but its stock is almost non-existent at this point. I don't know that that's going to happen given the very limited stock.

All that said, I bit on the 60" GT at $1700 from Paul's with 6 months no interest financing. And for the next 30 days, I'll be watching the price for price adjustment purposes - I assume I'll get ~$200 back in the next month and I'll end up where I expected, and if I don't, then I paid $200 to watch a really nice panel for a month (I can live with that).

I don't think it's a bad deal @ 1700.
I wouldn't lose sleep over $200.
The pressure of sd.net is what makes stay up at night

& I just think that it's limited inventory at the smaller retailers not a warehouse like Amazon, which at some point have to clear the 2012's out also.

Paid 1779 at BB in the end of Nov. Did a PA to this Pauls Tv price a week ago .... and I still have until 01/25 to PA again if the price drops more. Id say go for it. I love my 60gt50

Can you let me know which BestBuy did a price match for you for the 60GT50? My local BestBuy did not offer a price match to Paul's since they don't have a local store. They were ready to do a price match on the 55VT50 when it was 1629 at JR.com though. I made both requests on different days over the phone, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. i am planning to go to the store with a copy of my check-out page from Paul's to see if they will a price match.

Flip-flopping between the 60GT50 and 55VT50. Its 5 more inches vs "24p playback, isfccc" etc. Any Panasonic owners have any suggestions?

Also, both TVs are listed as "pre-order" at Fry's. Has anyone been able to get Fry's to price match with Paul's TV?

A professional calibrator on the AVS forum said he had a hard time telling the difference between 24p @ 96Hz (VT50) and 24p @ 60Hz (GT50). It seems like they've improved the 24p handling at 60Hz on recent Panasonics.
