i use an MS Ergo 4000 at work all day everyday, it's fantastic. use a Corsair K60 at home on my gaming machine, also fantastic for what it's made for.
buy the right tool for the job and you'll be far happier in the long run.

g19 is a good price though, that thing is almost never on sale.

The switches in the two are very similar. The regular has Cherry MX Black while the other has Reds. The similarities between the switches are that they both lack a tactile response, so the key press is very smooth without any type of tactile tick when the switch actuates so you don't feel anything until the key bottoms out. They say that it helps with quicker key presses, but these switches are not the greatest for touch typing since you don't get any response when the switch actuates so there is no confirmation if you pressed the key far enough aside from the bottom out. But most people aren't touch typists and will bottom keys out when typing.

The difference between the two switches is merely in how stiff the keys are or how much pressure it takes to actuate them. The blacks will have a heavier feel while the reds are a bit lighter.

Didn't realize I was being so obvious. Plus I had an MS Ergo 4000. Anyway, a good keyboard isn't going to make you an elite gamer and that is all I want to say. I sure did fine with a $10 keyboard when I played competitively.

If you're talking about mechanical keyboards then I'd say your assumption as to why people buy them is way off. People buy them because they want a more enjoyable experience when interacting with their computer. It's like buying a luxury car, you don't do it because you think you'll be the fastest, but you do it because you want a more enjoyable ride to work or where ever. Upgrades don't always mean gaining an advantage, sometimes they're simply for a more pleasurable experience. Now if you're talking about those $80+ logitech rubber dome keyboards then you've got a point. Unless you need all the macros then you really aren't going to gain much.
