Just the volume for in-ceiling speakers through an IR detector I installed in the wall to control the preamp in the bedroom. I keep a cheap remote in the bathroom for this so I don't have to remember to bring the main remote and so that I don't have to worry about damage from humidity - if it breaks, I will just get a new one.

I have this setup on my HTPC in the livingroom, and it's pretty simple (at least for my setup). You buy a Dell OVU4003/00 from ebay for maybe $10. It's a little IR receiver box with a 3' USB cable. I use Win7 Media Center, and it was pretty much plug-and-play.

For the Harmony remote, I had to dig around to find the right setting. It was something like Microsoft PC, and I think I had to remap some of the keys. Getting the Harmony remote set up was probably the most difficult part (but still not that difficult). I did it 3-4 years ago, so it's hard to think of the settings off the top of my head.

If you don't need a universal remote, you can probably get a Windows MCE remote plus the IR receiver for about $20.

Edit: I don't use an IR blaster. I turn the PC on and off manually, so the only thing I need for my setup is the ability to control Media Center. Hitting the Menu button on my remote opens Media Center, and I'm able to navigate to all my music, videos, recorded TV, live TV, etc. through that. The Harmony remote allows me to control my receiver and TV as well.

I use a Harmony 6xx remote in the livingroom so that I can use the macros such as Watch DVD to switch everything to use my PS3, but I have a much simpler setup in my office/exercise room.

You can use this remote as is or buy this just for the IR receiver and map everything onto a Harmony remote.

I have a Dell Zino HTPC which has a built-in IR receiver. I had mapped it to my Harmony 659 which died last month. On the look out for a cheap replacement.
