I just received my router today. I'm honestly very disappointed. I was averaging 25/20 on my FIOS router and I bought this because of the USB ports to run an external hdd and a printer and have dual band capabilities. I clocked this router at 3.96/1.77 which is absolutely HORRID!

I've installed openwrt on routers in the past but I don't know how much of a difference it will make with my speeds. I'm going to toy with it for another day and then return it. Probably the worst router I've tried...
25/20 and 3.96/1.77 what? Is that your Internet test speed?

I spoke too soon. I did a hard reset on both my routers and started over. I'm now getting proper speeds.

The TP link stock firmware did not recognize my 3TB drive. It did recognize the 500GB drive though.

Not sure how it will work with other FW options.

Next, I am planning to make my 3TB drive into smaller partitions and see if it will recongnize it then. Will let you know soon.

Using OpenWRT on this router, has anyone been able to wirelessly connect a printer? I'm trying to connect an Epson Artisan 837. The printer is seen and the MAC address is listed as it tries to connect, but it always fails.

Any tips? Thanks.

Ok. I split up my 3TB drive into 3 1 TB partitions. Still no go.

So were there other 2.4ghz signals in the area overlapping with yours?

That would likely be your issue. Change the channel to something that no one is on, if possible. The non overlapping channels are 1, 6 and 11. However, each channel is only 22Mhz wide so using 40Mhz in this case will likely cause interference or receive interference from another channel. It's really only recommended if you have little to no interference. Bottom line, don't expect 300Mbps out of the 2.4Ghz spectrum, which is why my 5Ghz is so much faster.
