Last summer was the time to buy. Most sales were hitting $0.50/GB. Now $0.65/GB seems to be a good deal. |

If you go to urlhasbeenblocked you can see prices at amazon, they pretty much leave 1 day or so at 0.50/gb (when i got mine) and then 2 days later they bump at some insanely high price... and then it stabilizes. those down/up spikes probably give them some data for the 'market price' everyone is willing to spend. So, yeah, manufacuring may have a play, but it's insignificant when you account for retail profits. |

So the vast majority of the price you're paying for an SSD is the flash memory. Consequently SSD prices are highly sensitive to fluctuations in flash memory prices. Most of the extremely discounted SSDs on sale are actually sold below manufacturing cost just to clear inventory. |
