You can actually get Crysis 1 for a buck...

Well, it sort-of-worked. The link you provided didn't seem to point to the right deal, but it's the number 1 topic on the gamedeals subreddit so it was easy to find the correct link. I was able to check out for $1 AUD for Crysis, but the code doesn't seem to activate on my account... I'll have to try after work when I get home and have the full Origin client booted up. |

Origin had issues with it's early versions of clients by allowing OS changes, such as leaving ports open on your computer. EA also used the Origin client to argue that the 'always-on' DRM model was effective ("otherwise people wouldn't use Origin"). The Origin website was a disaster for some international users, as their geographical location didn't match up with the payment type, and in turn, purchased games wouldn't authorize on the client-side computer. Another benefit for the Steam client is the community - since they've been around longer, and are not locked to one publisher, you can build up a better and bigger community. And with a bigger community comes better support - if a PC game requires Steam and a certain type of DRM, you can be sure that certain websites full of Steam community members will provide a patch or wiki on how to back up these games that you own so that you can make them work offline without DRM. Mind you, these instructions/patches are provided for LEGALLY purchased software through Steam, but they allow you to take full control of the content you own after downloading it through the Steam client. So, when I have a community that I like, a service/client that is multi-platform (even Linux!), allows for sale and support from multiple production companies and developers, doesn't cause security holes in my system, etc... I don't want to purchase one game that will reside outside of this well-established ecosystem. |

I was thinking about getting the Crysis Max pack via Amazon next week with my last EC coupon but $6 for Crysis + Crysis 2 Max is a better buy for me since I don't intend to do multiplayer. |
