i own this one , use torque on hp touchpad and connect by bluetooth . first day i did everyones car at the office . ford honda nissan chevy ect . even did live monitor while driving . fun fun , keep in mind the "MINI" is the size of a pack of cigs and if your connection is staring down over a pedal , driving is impossible ( yes they make a m-f extension cable w/ a right angle connector to wrk around this ..$$ ) .
BTW i cleared up my issue ( oil pressure sensor, honda ) by resetting the error and using chevron techron fuel additive for 2 tanks ( not a 30 dollar sensor , the mech said i needed , while everyone in the honda forums said i didn't ).
using a realtime display was fun fun fun ... just my .02's
btw , i used my droid phone first , but display was hard to read .... fun fun fun .
I keep one of these around, new in the package, to give away when I run into someone who needs a code reader. Very inexpensive and not problem if it doesn't come back.
The Autel is very easy to use. I can clear a code in 3 button pushes. press enter "DTC" > scroll down to "erase" > press "enter" done.
The Android app is far more involved.
First the Bluetooth needs to be enabled. Next you need to enable the app. . . . . Next you have to wait for the app to acquire connection to the cars ECU. . . . . Then you have to open "actions". . . . . Then accurately choose "show logged faults" from the drop down menu to display the code. . . . . .You then need to close "actions". . . Now to clear the code you need to open "actions" again. . . . Then accurately choose "clear logged faults" from the drop down menu. Then choose the "okay to clear" code popup box. Then exit Torque and then okay the exit of torque popup. Now shut off BT.
The Autel is far superior in its ease of operation.
They now make the ELM 327 version 1/3 the size of the one mentioned above - see below.
Though the Autel does not carry the features of the Scan Gauge II or Torque this an indestructible unit that you can toss into the glove box or toolbox without any worries of damaging it. Definitely not worried about scratches or dings as I would be with my SG, phone, or tablet.
I bought one before Christmas. used it once and worked fine. When I used it a second time, it refused to turn on. The covering on the readout and buttons came loose. Another problem with this one is that the plug doesn't have a complete set of pins which make it harder to get into the car's jack.
I sent it back for a refund and bought another unit on Ebay that is much better quality for a couple of bucks more (and has a complete set of pins in the plug that is very easy to put into the jack!).
Don't waste the $$$ on this unit!!

Reason: details... details.
These are getting cheaper, but remember that AutoZone will let you take this home thru the "Rent-a-tool" program. Take it home clear the code, take it back for free.
Some Autozones will let you run out and check the code and bring it back in while they hold you Drivers License, but other locations are getting to jerks about that.
Yea California banned it for a few years now. I used to be able to check it out for free and scan it right outside, copy the codes down, return it, and go home and research online. I bought this exact one one Amazon. The only complain is it is very slow but works.
