Will AT&T UVerse price match Comcast Internet offers?

Hi,

I'm currently paying for Comcast Performance 12MBPS for $34.99 a month and that ends next Wednesday. I was previously on a $19.99 a month for 1 year plan before that $34.99 was effective for the second year.

I still see frequent posted offers on SD for $19.99 a month for 12 months for new customers under this speed plan.

I'm planning on calling or chatting with AT&T tomorrow about their current promo. They have a $19.99 plan for 12 months which is 3MBPS, and something I noted was that their equivalent Comcast Performance speed is called "Max" Internet, which is also 12MBPS, but their promo costs $29.95/month for 12 months.

So I'm trying to see if it's realistically possible to find a nice AT&T rep who will be willing to give me a "price match" based on the same speed plan of 12MBPS for $19.99 if I'm a new customer. I would use the excuse that their AT&T promos aren't competitive with Comcast promos for new customers.

So the first thing I'm trying to think about is if I should tell AT&T if I'm an existing Comcast customer or should I leave that out of the discussion? One thought is that AT&T might have extra incentive discounts or exclusive offers for people who come from rival companies, but another thought I have is that if they know you're coming from Comcast and your contract is expiring, they know you need AT&T because there's no other option, so they might not bargain with you.

What do you people think?

I won't get into my feelings about AT&T and Uverse. Remember whatever you decide Uverse has a cap on usage, and you'll be punished for going over...$$$

Yes, I heard it's 250GB per month. I know it's under 1GB a day, but I think that it should be okay. I'll have to see. Good thing they told me there's an indicator when you log in online to check on that so that you don't pass it without knowing until you see the bill.

The things that I download are low in HD quality anyways, not even 720p. Just my parents watch streaming movies off of websites, not like Netflix.

I don't seem to follow your logic there, but I doubt that they will price match - their 12mb/s is their high-end, while it's just the basic level of service for Comcast

I was saying that comparing the speed of 12mbps, Comcast is offering that for $19.99 a month for new customers while AT&T is offering it for $29.95 a month for new customers. Comcast's is called Performance and AT&T is called Max.

I was just considering trying to have AT&T match Comcast's pricing for the same speed and see if anyone here on SD has ever tried that and gotten any success.

Actually U-verse's fastest service is 24mb/s depending on your area. That's still a far cry from Comcast's fastest tier but it's certainly more than the 12mb/s you claim.

I never said that 12mb/s is the fastest for U-Verse. I just said that 12mb/s is the plan that I'd like to get from U-Verse, which is called their max plan and comcast's 12mb/s is called performance internet.

From my OP, I've been asking people if they've tried to go to AT&T and price match that same speed since comcast is offering it for $19.99 a month.

Yeah, I didn't notice that until now. Sorry.

Still open to thoughts about this topic and question though.

Are you just assuming Comcast still offers $19.99 for 12 months in your area or do you know for sure?

Also do you currently have any sort of TV service?

No, I'm only talking about internet only service. If you look through the search of SD, you'll find many posts over the past 6 months of people getting mailers or phoning in and getting $19.99/month for 12 months, I even noticed in the wiki some zip codes that were in my area.

I'm not asking about the past six months. I'm talking about now. Also, AT&T does not often try to price match and they don't have any special offers for people leaving their competitors. You might as well call and ask as it doesn't hurt, but most likely they'll try to get you to do a bundle and give you a discount on it. They'll also offer you promotional gift cards to do the bundle as well. Also, unless your residence has had U-verse before or is part of a development constructed in the last 5 years, it will likely require a service tech to come over for installation. U-verse will waive the installation fee if you do a bundle, otherwise they'll charge $100 for it if you just get internet only, and trust me, no amount of begging will get them to waive it.

I just called in and they had nothing to offer me as a current customer. They wanted $50 a month for Blast and TV service the first year, going up to $60 the 2nd, with a 2 year contract.

They have nothing good for just internet only. I think they only had $40 for 3mbps!

I've been an AT&T U-verse customer for a year now and I don't have a data cap. I've never been charged for anything over. I have 3 computers and multiple devices connected, plus we do online gaming and watch all our shows online. In my area, it's not a problem, maybe there's a cap in other areas.

yes, initially I thought that the 250GB per month cap that I have with AT&T now (yes, I went with them instead of Comcast) would be an issue, but when I calculated it, it's more than 8 GB a day, which is more than what I download and use since I'm not into blu ray.
