It's not a matter of right or wrong. It's having a healthy dialogue and getting knowledge from this thread that you wouldn't necessarily be available on the Chase website. The recent Southwest Rapid Rewards card deal had such dialogue and if it weren't for this dialogue I wouldn't have learned about a different card which for me, offered superior benefits to this United card.
Can you share the link for that deal? I can't find it via search?
this is the first time i've gotten the card, but to my knowledge, yes, you can close the acct after you use the rewards. there should be no penalty for closing the card either.
got it. thanks!
Rule of thumb on these things is to keep it open, at least, 6 months. Plus, credit wise, at the 6 month mark, your credit will be back to what it was before the inquiry and the lowering of your AAoA. I personally will have this card open until December, right before the one year mark. Occasionally buying a rockstar and paying in full before it cuts every few months or so.
I haven't gotten out the fine tooth comb for the rewards rules... but a lot of them require an account to be open for a few months. Throw the card in the sock drawer after you get the rewards and set a reminder for this Fall to close it. You don't have to but I highly recommend this approach to it.
