You might as well buy a brand new unlocked note 2 like I did. I stick with prepaid and use google voice while at home. While I am out of the house I simply forward calls to my cell. I use wifi for data. Costs me a whole $10 a month.

Google voice allows you to forward calls to any number. Any time I leave the house, I have calls sent to my cell phone. The number I give out to people is my google voice number. This is also free. As for cell service, just pick the best prepaid option you can get.

I've been trying to help people understand how I do this for two years. Nobody gets it.

BTW- I also have a second Obi at the office. The new model (202) allows outgoing calls from 2 different google voice numbers.

I'm going to keep reading up on this. Why pay these companys all this $$$ when you don't have to. I don't know how you got $10 month though. Best I can find is $35 plus $600 for the phone and $70 for the Obi

This is exactly what I do, except I use a grandstream voip box I found at goodwill. I also need cell data so I have the $35 a month walmart plan. Had to drop the $650 to get the phone, can't trust any one on CL or ebay for that matter.

i'm new to posting stuff as to what i think is a deal so just wanted to ask the community. do people thumbs-down posts if they know of a "work-around" that allows the user to spend less? or do people consider the conditions and rate it thumbs-up or thumbs-down? b/c if you look at the price for a galaxy note 2 with 2-year contract + the $35 activation credit; if someone wanted to simply open a T-Mobile account (and not want/no time to learn the beauty of google voice etc) added the max-allowed 5 lines that's $175 that person would save right there. just wondering/saying.

people are thumbing this thread down likely because you're missing the big picture. With your deal, it's $300 for the phone + 24 months of mandatory voice and data service. Yes, if you open 5 lines, you save 5x$35 on activation, but you also spend an enormous amount over the contractual period.

In fact, it's nearly on par with buying the phone full-price and then signing up for Walmart's $30 prepaid plan. Thus, this is not likely a "slick" deal for most people.
