Something I also missed is you might not even have a DVI port at all.

Their specs say "15 pin" which is an old style analog VGA port, and a HDMI port.

There is no mention of a DVI port, so forget dual-link, you don't even have DVI ?

It's a shame because that is a decent CPU. And it even has USB 3.0 and eSATA which is very modern.

But without DVI dual-link or displayport, you'll just never get more than 1920x1080 out of it.

My bad, I misread that. I thought the 3450 model number that I saw was for the graphics card, not the actual laptop model itself.

And may modern laptops do have dual display adapters - the integrated low-powered Intel graphics which runs when on battery or power saving mode, and a dedicated card which runs when plugged in or not in power saving mode. The last few laptops I've bought over the past 3 years have all had that feature.

And according to the specs for the HD6630M card it that it has, it should still be able to do up to 2560x1600 over a DVI Dual-link (which that laptop apparently doesn't have) or up to 2048x1536 over a VGA connection. Of cours that is a 4:3 resolution; the max 16:9 resolution within that limit is 2048x1152 which is only about a 10% higher resolution than 1920x1080.

Or you can use display port. You can't have HDMI anywhere in the chain because it is single link DVI. You also can't use a single link - DVI -> Display Port Adapter.

Well 2 x U2311H will get you ~4.15M pixels combined, whereas 1 x U2713HM will get you ~3.67M usable pixels. So the total resolution is pretty close, so it really just comes down to whether you want two screens or one. My vote is for 2 screens because then you can be doing someone different in a maximized window on each screen (i.e. browsing SD on one screen while watching a movie on the other).

Why should I pay more for this panel than the monoprice 27" 1440p or microcenter AURIA EQ276W 27" 1440p ?

Dell provides better warranty and support, offers a zero pixel defect policy as opposed to 5 defective pixel policy on the MP 27", and the contrast ratios are much better on the Dell.

The contrast ratio on the Auria/Nixeus is disappointingly low. What's the point of getting a high res IPS display if the contrast is going to be horrible?

My only complaint with the U2713HM is the cross hatching I have now been able to see on the screen. The reviews were right, its so faint but once you see it there's no way to ignore it. Thinking a revision will take care of it and at that time I will consider an advanced RMA with Dell.

I had two Samsung 2333Ts. They had nice PQ, but ran the whole length of my desk. They were too wide and barely allowed for my speakers. I sold them and got a pair of Dell 2007FPs, which is about the same price as the U2713HM. Plus you can turn one of them sideways, allowing for 1600 vertical resolution.

simply put, its a professional series monitor. if you are a professional such as myself, you'll know the reasons why you need it. If you don't know why you need it or why it's so expensive, then you don't need one.

I have 2 "famous maker" hp2408z 24" monitors flanking either side of Shimian 27". Eyefinity works great, your vertical resolution is capped at the lowest screen, in my case 1200p.

Great setup....although your one 6850 will suffer and die....I run 2x 6970's in xfire and I have to turn down settings in some games.
