Not to sound pretentious, but Purina is crap food. I don't know much about their cat food, but the dog food is crap that is made of animal by-products. Also, I wouldn't doubt that it's made in China. Be careful feeding your pet this stuff. If you'd like to click the link above, you can find great reviews on food from 1 star all the way to excellent 5 star food. Hope this helps some people. If money isn't a huge issue, there's much better food you can feed your pets for only a little more money. Last edited by kyle6286; 01-16-2013 at 09:29 AM.. |

From their dry kibble: Chicken - Wet chicken is the #1 ingredient, but dried and processed it probably becomes the 5th or 6th ingredient by weight as implemented brewers rice - This sounds okay, but its the leftover bits of rice left over and scraped off the floor when Budweiser is done producing rice alcohol to add to their beer poultry by-product meal - The dried, leftover bits of stuff from chicken processing. corn gluten meal - Largely indigestible by dogs and added just to add bulk, GMO as well whole grain wheat - Also largely indigestible by dogs, likely GMO whole grain corn - More stuff they cant digest, and here is corn as a second ingredient. Likely that this food is primarily rice and corn. soy flakes - To boost the protein count, since the chicken is pretty minimal after drying. GMO, will make your dog fart, and not particularly digestible by dogs. animal fat - Whatever was in the vat at the animal rendering plant at the end of the day. Its fat. It came from some mixed source of animals, and its probably not fresh pea fiber, oat meal - these are okay, but there isn't much of it soybean meal - Soybeans again, breaking ingredients down into multiple types sinks them on the ingredient list, but when you add up all the soy, rice, corn and so forth, its by weight the top 3 ingredients fish meal - Mystery fish bits leftover from processing, dried. animal digest - Whatever was in the stomachs of the animals at the rendering plant. Could be pretty much anything. Avoid corn, rice, wheat and unnamed protein/fat/meal sources. My dogs and cats live until their teeth, eyesight and joints give out, usually 20+ years for cats and 15-18 years for very large breed dogs. Good food, exercise and good care will keep the vet away, and your pets will live a very long time. |

If you're content with feeding your dog left over animal by-products produced in China with zero regulations, by all means feed your pets the cheapest food money can buy, though I would feel very bad for them. As the person above mentioned, much of what's in this crap food provides absolutely zero nutrition to your pet. It's simply a filler that makes the food cheaper to produce. If you're not aware of the huge dilemma concerning dogs and cats dying from eating chicken jerky made in China, take a look at this article from today. This has been an issue for months now, and they continue to post articles on it, updating the amount of dogs and cats that have been killed from being exposed to the Chinese jerky. Not sure about you, but I definitely wouldn't trust a pet food company that has its food supplied from China. http://vitals.nbcnews.com/_news/2...-says?lite And, ironically, most vets don't know a thing about pet nutrition. Purina 1 is no where near the cheapest food though. My pit-bulls love the stuff and it maintains a healthier coat and a healthy weight compared to other brands we've tried. It was recommended by my Vet... Personally I can't understand why some dog foods #1 ingredient is corn. My dogs like meet. Corn is for the cows. Lol
It's also hard to believe too that most Vet's don't understand an animals nutrition. Do you have any proof other than your opinion? Are you a Vet? Don't get me wrong here. No hard feelings. I'm trying to be educated.
