Still the best price for this drive in recent history (same deal as the Newegg deal yesterday)

NOT some insane super low price. Hopefully they keep going down, but this isn't bad for the 3 year warranty you get.

I am using a NAS drive in my desktop. It seems that NAS drives spin down after very short idle time to prolong mechanical life and conserve energy, at the penalty of performance (for desktop use anyway).

I felt pointing this out would be somewhat useful for this context: Notorious means famous or well known for being bad.

Compared to green drives they have a longer warranty (3year vs 2) and TLER (Time Limited Error Recovery) which prevents your drive from repeatedly trying to read a bad sector and causing issues with some RAID/NAS solutions.

From what I've read, nobody can tell a difference between the hardware of the Green vs Red drives otherwise, but that doesn't prove their aren't higher quality components. The warranty helps alleviate any concerns though.
