That's a bold statement. No one can really predict future HD prices.. For all we know, we could have another disaster somewhere in the process of what it takes to build hard drives.. and then prices skyrocket even higher.. or maybe prices will continue to fall ("long" term trend anyways) and maybe 2TB and 3TB drives can be had for $<70 and <$90, respectively. Like was stated, it comes down to how desperate you are in needing the storage "today".

I am using a NAS drive in my desktop. It seems that NAS drives spin down after very short idle time to prolong mechanical life and conserve energy, at the penalty of performance (for desktop use anyway).

I recently started using 4 of these in RAID5 array so someone more knowledgable feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that these do NOT spin down and are "engineered" , and capable , to keep spinning 24/7 as would be required in a NAS/RAID type environment

I have 4 running in a RAID 6. No issues with any of the drives. This is a great price.

Amazon has historically shipped hard drives better than Newegg and I also prefer their customer service. Unfortunately I pay tax at Amazon. Still the best price for this drive in recent history (same deal as the Newegg deal yesterday)

NOT some insane super low price. Hopefully they keep going down, but this isn't bad for the 3 year warranty you get.

4 drives in RIAD 6...sounds silly. Why not just use RAID 10? You'd be getting better performance.
