i had exactly the same thing happened to me. the female Indian rep even pretended that the connection was dropped (she turned down the volume). in the end she didn't give me a confirmation # and i pushed and she said crap like i'd get one later. i never got one. weeks later i checked the balances of the cards and they were still in tact. i ended up using those cards to buy amazon gift cards.

i think the CSR was just afraid that she could get into trouble as there were a lot of cards and could be fraud. very unethical to lie like this and waste customer's time.

Yes, 4MyRebate is very reliable at fulfilling the rebates. We are talking about a separate issue...turning AMEX cards into a check.

I don't think she was afraid it could be fraud... because they send the check to the same billing address on the cards themselves. I think what's more likely is that phone CSRs are instructed by AMEX to lie, delay, and make it so inconvenient for you to request a refund on these prepaid cards that you never try to do it again.

After all, AMEX gets paid a fee (roughly 2 to 3%) of your transaction from the merchant you use it at, plus they stand to make money on inactivity fees, etc. from you deciding to keep the card.

I've had CSR's try to get me to keep the cards by offering to transfer the balances of all the smaller cards into the largest one I have. I've also had CSRs repeatedly question me on why I want a refund. It gets kind of annoying after a while, and at some point.. you just want to say, shut up and process my refund.

Then when they do start the process, they take forever to check the balances and add them up. I mean, does it really take an hour to check the balances of 20 cards? Doubtful. They write down all the card #s and security codes on their screen, so all they have to do is copy and paste. I know that's so hard....

I wish this was through metabank. Visa I think? Just filed a BBB complaint. If they honor it, will let y'all know. So if you get hung up on like me and spend an hr w/ them with no results, just file a complaint. Hopefully enough complaints will stop the shenanigans AmEx is pulling here.

I've been using 2 Amex Serve accounts and 2 Amazon Payments accounts to drain a bunch of cards back to my bank account... but Amazon now reports to IRS if over $4000 per year ...and with Serve i risk getting locked out... so i'm interested if you know something

it's the same. you just call for a check, but the only hassle i've received form them is them asking why and trying to convince me to use the cards. with amex india however, multiple hang ups, being rude to me and told no check option, and going through at least an hour to go through the whole process to end up with nothing.
