The SAS version of the Constellation 2T drives are used in enterprise SAN equipment. The drive mechanism and platters are the same as SAS and they have a fairly low failure rate. I'm in for 6 to replace the 1T green failures in my enclosure at home.

I don't trust the reds any more than the blues. At least my failed 1T greens are being replaced with 3T. They're still in a raid 6 array.

I think you are confusing the ES version with the CS version offered in this deal. The CS like the WD red is built using a desktop drive platform (not enterprise platform) but like WD red has tweaked firmware for NAS use.

The much more expensive ES version has a differnt enterprise drive platform with SAS and SATA versions.

This is part of their "Enterprise Value" line of HDD, pretty much to compete with the RE4 (a little more upscale than the Red)

That is misleading. The drive is suitable for NAS but it is not an NAS drive by itself.
