I own this thermostat. I paid a little less than this with the $50 off $100 coupon that home depot had a few months back. I think it is well worth the price if wireless access is a feature you would use. Hell, I use it from the couch occasionally.....and that's why I'm fat!

How to install with already preexisting one?

All remote access features require working WiFi network with internet access and a "C" or common wire connected to the thermostat for power
Anyone know what this means? The last part I'm talking about. Do most modern thermostats hace this common wire present already?
If you are replacing an existing programmable thermostat with this one, then you most likely have the C wire already in place. If not, then those odds decrease greatly and depends on the previous installation.

I have this thermostat, and it's great. The Android app works very well, plus you always have access via the website. Not really sure how much Nest could learn from our entering/leaving habits.

VERY VERY EASY. All the wires will match up to new one. The instructions tell you which setup you have and how its wired.

Thanks. I have a somewhat modern (<10 year old) programmable thermostat, so I guess I am good to go.

I did not have a "C" wire, but I installed it with an A/C adapter wired through the wall with the other thermostat cables. I'm a beginner when it comes to things like this and it was pretty easy. If it doesn't work for you, you can return it to home depot for any reason pretty much.

You should already have all the wiring needed. Worst case scenario, you compare your current wiring to what is needed for this, and if you can't figure it out you return it.

Not that I know of, but you can monitor the thermostat temp from work.

I use to have a thermostat that I programmed to 60 at night then at 5am turn on and go to 68 so by 630am it is nice and toasty for the shower. Then our heat pump went and needed to be replaced so we upgraded the whole system. In this new system was a learning thermostat. I set it up the same way as the other one but this one would kick on at 3am to make sure by 630am it was the correct temp. This I did not want. I would reather hae the program one over the "learning" one any day of the week. I will give this one a shot Thanks!

How well does this thermostat handle recovering from power outages? Does it retain your last settings, or does it revert to some default?
