This is just another of a hundred cheap wireless-N routers that have nowhere near the hardware necessary to run N reliably. Wireless N is a fairly complex protocol that requires moderately powerful hardware, and as I've said time and time again when these deals appear on SD, these cheap routers just don't have it and will fail in no time. Complete waste of money.
Yes, it is. Everyone's been blowing them out lately for $20-25. This unit, the DIR-657, was built as the replacement to the extremely successful and venerable DIR-655. But, unlike the 655, this unit has the ever-unpopular internal antennae (and the inevitable reduced range), and has had a number of firmware/feature issues, which led to bad reviews, and hence dumping the otherwise excellent product.
D-Link has a solid product line, and usually does a decent job of updating/fixing their firmware. You can barely pay $20 for a 4-port gigabit switch (which this has), let alone the 300N wireless (only 2.4Ghz band, like the DIR-655 it replaces), USB storage/server ports, flash card port, free dynDNS (as with all D-Link devices), and DLNA. I plan on getting one as an "emergency" router when a friend has one that burns out/breaks, etc.
Most places have been blowing them out for $20 + $5 shipping, so this is en even better deal.
