While it's naive to think that this is not about money at all, the overarching principle of high-priced memory cards is to curb piracy.

Look at what happened with the PSP. Once the cheap, 3rd-party memory became available, the hacking community went nuts, and ultimately led to the PSP's demise. Sony does not want this happening to the Vita, and has kept card prices high and monopolized in an effort to keep them from the general public; the cheaper the cards, the more likely hackers are to get their hands dirty in the system and start prying it open.

nice theory but I dont think that is true. Because how will expensive cards stop them? why didnt just make their own cards with low prices instead of high? And I'm sure their are hackers who can afford a ps vita memory card.

This is simply a way for sony to make money just like Microsoft with all the DLCs and xbox live membership. Or just like all these internet,phone,cable companies like comcast who charge a ridiculous amount. Its all about the money no reason to overcomplicate it.

If it was priced normally like $30 or less, then people will buy this and buy more content from psn. Sony seems to not understand this.

Think whatever you want. But piracy is a MASSIVE problem for Sony. Of course there are hackers that can afford an expensive card, but not the majority of hackers that would give it a try on a cheap card. Piracy was a huge part of what killed the PSP, and you can't argue otherwise. It exploded as soon as 3rd-party memory came out.

Exactly. Why would you want to make it MORE DIFFICULT for me to purchase your products? Have the special card format to prevent pirating, and then make it inexpensive so I can buy more games. I've NOT bought games because I would have to uninstall something I was still playing.
