The tax rules are complicated for cell phones. CA and MA charge tax on the non-subsidized price. In MA, tax is supposed to be charged on the wholesale price, but the companies don't want you to know the wholesale price (which you could figure out if they actually followed the law), so they tax you on their retail price. Even then, they could opt to pay it for you, so it's a lie when they say they have to charge it because the law indicates that they are not required pass on the extra tax. Keep in mind, though, that many states have cell phone sales taxes that are many times higher than the regular sales tax anyway.

Just got it for ATT(Upgrade). Called several times, got told they don't do price matched. Then tried few more times, and got to a rep that told me he will double check with his supervisor. Then got the deal. Good luck everyone!

After reading all the responses I thought that I could get the deal no problem, well it was a little more difficult than I initially assumed.

Tried "Live Chat", wont do upgrades so transferred me to rep - Denied
Called 800-331-0500, rep said no price match (20-min wait) - Denied
Called 611, rep said no price match, even threatened to leave (15-min wait) - Denied
Called 800-331-0500 again, rep said no price match and was mad about me asking for lower price (22-min wait) - Denied

Finally, today I decided just (1) more chance and then I was tossing in the towel, called 800-331-0500, got a male rep 20-30 years old, this is what I said: "I need the Note 2 for work, Amazon wireless has it for $99 and ATT.com has it for $299. I have been a customer since 2004 and don't want to loss ATT as my carrier, but the difference in price is making me consider." (I said this politely). Rep pulled up Amazon and looked and verified the lower price (30-seconds time), put me on hold for 2-minutes. When he came back on the phone he said I have been a customer for 9-years and never had a reduction on any phones and ATT wants to keep me happy and offered $89.99 not the $99.99 as published on Amazon.
