I was/am an original Nook Color owner ... back in the day when rooting and custom ROM's were still in their infancy. It was a GREAT tablet then. Dollar for dollar it couldn't be touched.

Now ... it's a whole new ballgame. With the Nexus 7 I can't see any reason to buy this. A used N7 will cost a few bucks more but honestly that is money well spent. $100 + tax + $15 shipping = bad deal.

Not a bad deal depending on shipping. I got mine in Nov. for $79.

It's a great tablet once you root it. Search for the other thread on these to get answers to all of the questions that will surely come regarding rooting.

Also, FWIW, I will say that I use both the Kindle app and the Nook app (as well as using the Nook unrooted) and I have to say that Amazon beats the crap out of B&N as far as being the best place to buy your books.

Edit: I just noticed that this is Pre-owned. For the record, mine was Cert. Refurbished. Not sure what difference that makes, but mine looked and worked like it was brand new.

Even then, some features will simply not work properly. This was all very worthwhile two years ago since the Nook was so much cheaper than anything else. No, the price gap just isn't very significant.

Aside from that ... my single biggest irritation is the freaking USB cable. I've gone through 3 now and my Nook is just sitting there powered down because I refuse to buy another from the crooks at B&N. It's a stinking USB cable. When's the last time you had a bad one? Over 825 reviews and you have 705 with 1 star ratings vs 18 with 5 star. They were charging $25 for the cable and have since dropped their price to $15. For such a defective product they should be offering people these cables for free. Such a piece of junk.

if you call in and place the order you can get the Ultra saver which I think is around $5. On the page it won't let you checkout with ultra saver.

Nook Tablet is dual core and 2x the ram, a HUGE difference. There is a night and day difference when you are trying to download an app and run an app at the same time. Nook Color is a geo metro and the Tablet is a supercharged mini cooper.

Actually, no.

The main difference between the Color and the Tablet is that the Tablet's processor is powerful enough to play 720p video and actually browse the web effectively.

You're about a year out of date on custom ROMs 'not working properly.' It took until the beginning of 2012 to crack the bootloader, which is what led to the initial problems.

CM7 was stable about 3 months later and has been gold and unchanged for at least 6 months. CM10 has been working fine over the last few months. Bluetooth doesn't work on any version, but that's because the Tablet doesn't have the chipset. Takes about 5 minutes to put either version on an SD card or MMC.

The cable is garbage, but if you bother to call B&N in the first year after you purchase it you can get a replacement for free.

For $99, this is half the price of the Nexus 7 with 90%+ of the functionality. If you actually do want to pay $199 for a tablet, might want to wait to see if the 16 GB Nook HD+ hits that price point again; the larger 8.9" 1900x1200 screen completely blows the Nexus 7 away and it's got roughly the same Antutu benchmarks with a slightly faster processor (albeit dual core versus quad core.)
