Any idea if this will be back again?

First time ever trying to install on any tablet. I've been working on this all day, and I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. I'm trying to install CM10 internally on Nook Tablet and I've followed the procedures in the wiki. At this point, I just want to finish it so, I have $20 via paypal to send to someone who can successfully guide me through the process over the phone. Ah, a Nook Color owner who has actually never seen what the NC or NT's 600p looks like, since the NC is incapable of playing anything over 480p. It's actually why I bought the NT originally, since I wanted to play the 720p videos I had imported from my Tivo, couldn't on the NC natively, and didn't feel like Handbraking 50+ videos from a couple of season passes that I didn't have enough time to watch at home - let alone being forced to watch them in blurry standard def on a non-optimized screen.

As far as playing a 720p video, it's pretty simple. MX Player. Hardware mode. 720p plays fine, even under CM7 without video acceleration.

And 720p in that horrid, awful downrezzed 600p versus the N7s infinitely superior 800p resolution? I compared the two extensively before deciding not to upgrade to the N7; my friends with N7s were nice enough to let me play with their toys. Here's a shocker: the NT actually looked better.

Actually, this should be no surprise; there's been a lot written about how the B&N people really did a nice job on optimizing color palletes versus the N7 and Kindle. You can find some of the references in my previous posts on the Tablet. The N7's additional resolution is great for games. It's not as great for media.

Add on not having an SD card, and it makes the Nexus line a really iffy proposition for native (versus streaming, which is mediocre quality and doesn't take full advantage of the hardware) media playback despite the dongle workarounds and the speakers. If you want content, Amazon is still the way to go. If you want specs to play games, Nexus is superior. But if you want native media support? Despite its flaws, the NT still is your best bet.

And about that capacity issue? It looks like almost all of the N7s available on CL and Ebay at $150 are the 8 GB model. I wouldn't touch the N7 with less than 16 GB of storage, nor would I buy the 8 GB version of the NT for both the storage and the problems with ROMs. If you can snag a 16 GB N7 for $150, more power to you, but bottom line is for almost everyone you're still talking about double the price. (Oh, and the refurb NTs that are out there now on sale are more than likely not refurbs at all since they're blowing out previous unsold stock as they transition to the HD.)

So, 2x the price with the difference largely being that you can send crappy pictures via Skype. If that's the 10% improvement you want, go for it. Personally, I have my phone for video, since one of the big selling points of unlimited data plans is to be able to Skype or Facetime away from Wifi networks.

And once more, since you chose to not respond to this - if you have the $200 budget for the N7, I'd certainly love to hear why a 1900x1200 screen, an 8.9" form factor, and similar specs don't warrant buying a 16 GB Nook HD+ instead the next time it's on sale, since Staples had it for $199 over the holidays. It also plays 1080p natively and in full resolution, and looks spectacular doing so. Web browsing on a larger screen becomes a lot more fun too.

To each their own. I'm glad you enjoy your N7. But while I'm no fan what B&N is trying to do with attempting to force people to use mediocre, locked down stock software in their attempt to bootstrap a non-existent B&N marketplace that is never going to take off, the hardware they've subsidized to do so is really rather impressive for the price. It just takes 5 minutes of software tinkering to get it to live up to its potential.

Bottom line: the NT is a functional, entry level real tablet when hacked. $99 for that is unbelievable, especially considering only a few months ago your only tablets at that price were cheap Chinese ones with VGA screens.

I was/am an original Nook Color owner ... back in the day when rooting and custom ROM's were still in their infancy. It was a GREAT tablet then. Dollar for dollar it couldn't be touched.

Now ... it's a whole new ballgame. With the Nexus 7 I can't see any reason to buy this. A used N7 will cost a few bucks more but honestly that is money well spent. $100 + tax + $15 shipping = bad deal.
