Description This update addresses the following issues : Improved ''''dirty drive'''' write performance.

The only way to do it now is after OS install. You can do it through Windows in the Samsung Magician Software Suite. Just released December 13th. PLEASE NOTE WINDOWS OS ONLY FOR FIRMWARE UPDATE. NO LINUX or MAC.

Warning: Updating the firmware on anything except a Windows based PC is done at your own risk, we only support upgrading firmware from a Windows based PC.

Important: You must load the firmware onto the USB from a Windows based computer.

You may be able to update the firmware on the SSD if your using a x86 based Linux or MAC computer, and you can boot from USB.

Don't believe Samsung's power usage claims. The 830 topped the charts in a recent Anandtech review even though Samsung claimed super low power usage. The 840 uses less than the 830 but nowhere nearly as little as the specs say.

Just now putting together my rma return for one of these to B&H. 6th different SSD drive I have owned and by far the worst. Windows freezes on install, slow speeds on new z77 chipset, sluggish performance, hiccups and glitches, just not what I am used to in SSD. Put my Crucial M4 back in place and smooth sailing.

Current firmware update did not improve performance, did not remove windows install bugs on intel controller

I've yet to test these 840's out in the field, but I do run an IT shop and am looking forward to hearing about better reliability before rolling them out and recommending them to clients. Right now we stick to the 830's, any Intel's, and m4's.

I was just reading about how fast MS Office 2013 install on SSDs here [digitalversus.com] Samsung, just like in many other reviews, again shows excellent results, better than Intel. I am using 128GB Crucial, so want to upgrade to 256GB, but will wait for a deeper price cuts That being said, good find and thanks for sharing, OP!
