This TV is full backlit. Not edge lit. This translates into a more uniform backlighting, which reduces ghosting and shading problems.
No, it's not full-array backlit LED - those cost a lot more. This is part of a new crop of budget direct LEDs to reduce the cost compared to edge-lit. In other words, they can still market it as LED without the 'thin' factor that attracted the mass consumers to LED in the first place.
When being reviewed, this unit is almost universally credited with having rich dark blacks, no washing out. Some review sites go so far as to put it in contention for best black reproduction for LEDs.

Very tempting.
My only slight hesitation is that it is 60Hz. I don't really care about other fancy tv features that I will never use. There have been a ton of good TV deals recently... not sure if I should finally put in an order, or wait a bit longer. |

I looked at this TV at BF for $500 and it was OOS at Sears. It is a great deal. very nice picture and is a great price for a 50" 1080/60! Have to be careful it fits your hookup needs but if it does, this is the lowest price since BF by $50. Use ShopDiscover for another 5% CashBack.

Great price, any first hand reviews from owners?
I had my heart set on the TC-P50U50 at $549 or TC-P50UT50 at $599. I'm guessing TV deals are just getting started. Personally I was leaning towards plasma because of PQ. I just got a new Sharp LED and turn off all the motion enhancements anyway. |

I bought the Panasonic P50UT50 for $599 the other day. It's getting delivered to me tomorrow. Should I rather go for this? The Panasonic deal was really hot (38 thumbs up). I am torn. Is it that much better? I doubt I would use the 3D or Smart TV much. I had been using a PC with my Vizio but the Panasonic has no PC input while this Toshiba does. But people are simply gaga over Panasonic Plasma's picture quality. Help?
