I'm running Win 7 and, from what I've read, you can't use a 3 TB drive with Windows' built-in backup software. Anyone know if Win 8 gets rid of that limitation?

Now if only America had a similar EU 1999 directive guaranteeing a 2-year warranty on all goods at least. Especially in this day of hard drive manufacturer consolidation. When there are very few choices, they can do as they like since you have nowhere else to go. Reduced warranties periods being one of them.

Ugh, is it just me or is there more slick deals on external hard drives than there are internal drives? Not all of us are connecting our tablets and smartphones to a router connected to an external for storage.... yet.
The WD Red for $140 couple days ago was meh...built for NAS lol... my WD Greens have held up 4+ years in NAS just fine. |

Sweet. I was thinking about the 3TB USB2 deal the other day, but I am glad I waited for this deal. Plus, this is a 2 year warranty, not a single year like the other.
I've been needing an external drive and this is a good enough deal for me. Thanks! |

Just bought the same thing at B&H, same price... It's cheaper to buy this than the drive inside by itself, and I wanted the 7200rpm drive.
Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive But according to Newegg reviews I read after buying it, looks like there's a high failure rate on these and I kinda wish I hadn't bought it. What's the best deal on a more reliable option, anyone know? |

Seagate 3.0 drives are prone to have device not being recognized when the host is rebooted and/or coming out of hibernation. It is painful to disconnect the power/USB cacble to make it to recognize again by the host particularly if it is used as NAS.
