Why is this have so many more thumbs up than the post from the other day...? : Seagate 3TB Expansion External Desktop USB 3.0 Hard Drive STBV3000100 $119 ends 1/18@B&H
Is there a difference between the two drives?
Well this one has a 2 year warranty whereas the STBV3000100 shows a 1 year warranty.
Now if only America had a similar EU 1999 directive guaranteeing a 2-year warranty on all goods at least.
Especially in this day of hard drive manufacturer consolidation. When there are very few choices, they can do as they like since you have nowhere else to go. Reduced warranties periods being one of them.
Directive 1999/44/EC: The Directive on Sale of Consumer Goods and Guarantees aims to harmonise those parts of consumer sale contract law that concern legal guarantees (warranties) and, to a lesser extent, commercial guarantees.
Its main element is that the seller has to guarantee the conformity of the goods with the contract for a period of two years after the delivery of the goods. Certain standards exist for assessing when conformity can be assumed and when not.
If the goods are not delivered in conformity with the sales contract, consumers can ask for the goods to be repaired, replaced, reduced in price or for the contract to be rescinded.
The final seller, who is responsible to the consumer, can also hold the producer liable in their business relationship.
"A global super-rich elite has exploited gaps in cross-border tax rules to hide an extraordinary (minimum) $21 trillion of wealth offshore – as much as the American and Japanese GDPs put together – according to research commissioned by the campaign group Tax Justice Network. At least $21 trillion – perhaps up to $32 trillion.
Ugh, is it just me or is there more slick deals on external hard drives than there are internal drives? Not all of us are connecting our tablets and smartphones to a router connected to an external for storage.... yet.
The WD Red for $140 couple days ago was meh...built for NAS lol... my WD Greens have held up 4+ years in NAS just fine.
Seagate 3.0 drives are prone to have device not being recognized when the host is rebooted and/or coming out of hibernation. It is painful to disconnect the power/USB cacble to make it to recognize again by the host particularly if it is used as NAS.
